Oh, Be Careful Little Eyes

Oh, Be Careful Little Eyes

One of my favorite old inspirational songs is the 1944 Hymn "O Be Careful Little Eyes What You See." The lyrics and tune may seem simple, but the meaning is profound, especially in today's world. While God is gracious enough to extend His goodness and favor, we must remain vigilant about living honorably before the Lord. Thus, consider the words of this timeless melody:
"Oh, be careful, little eyes, what you see,
Oh, be careful, little eyes, what you see.
There's a Father up above looking down in tender love,
Oh, be careful, little eyes, what you see.
Oh, be careful, little ears, what you hear,
Oh, be careful, little ears, what you hear.
There's a Father up above looking down in tender love,
Oh, be careful, little ears, what you hear.
Oh, be careful, little tongue, what you say,
Oh, be careful, little tongue, what you say.
There's a Father up above looking down in tender love,
Oh, be careful, little tongue, what you say.
Oh, be careful, little hands, what you do,
Oh, be careful, little hands, what you do.
There's a Father up above looking down in tender love,
Oh, be careful, little hands, what you do.
Oh, be careful, little feet, where you go,
Oh, be careful, little feet, where you go.
There's a Father up above looking down in tender love,
Oh, be careful, little feet, where you go."
Knowing that God is watching is a healthy motivation to do what is right. Thus, we need to make specific commitments concerning our senses and abilities. For example, the Psalmist prayed: Psalm 101:3, which says, "I will not set before my eyes anything that is worthless. I hate the work of those who fall away; it shall not cling to me."
What prayers of dedication do you need to make? Remember, that old hymn isn't just for children. See, people of all ages need to dedicate every part of their lives to the Lord prayerfully. When we have an "Oh, be careful, little eyes attitude, the blessing of God will follow.
